Ahhh, Dior. When I hear or see products from this brand I immediately think, luxurious. I was thrilled when I was included in Influenster’s Dior Voxbox and couldn’t wait to see these products in action. I received 3 full size products from the new Backstage collection: Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation, Glow Face Palette and Diorshow Mascara. In French, the word Dior, related to D’ Or, means golden.... well, count me in then.
Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation
First impression, I really enjoyed the look of the bottle. It’s simple, lightweight and won’t shatter into a million pieces if it’s dropped! The second thing I noticed (before even opening the bottle) was the smell. It. Smells. AMAZING. This did however raise a concern, was this so jam packed with fragrance that I will breakout? I’m happy to say, I did not and the smell didn’t linger or become overbearing once applied.
The foundation has a really wide variety of shades making it easy to choose from but I would recommend deciding in person vs. online to get a perfect match. I fall under the neutral, slightly cooler shades for foundation but rushed when doing the Influenster shade quiz...so mine was a tiny bit off (oops!)
The foundation is medium coverage with a matte finish. It could just be my own opinion but I really don’t think I would classify this as a matte finish but more Dewey. One application and I had a really nice luminous, natural makeup look but if I were to use this for a glam or heavier makeup look I would probably mix it with a true medium coverage foundation... otherwise you may be building it up for awhile. With that said, I think for an everyday, glowing look this foundation is amazing. It went on really smooth, did not smudge, run or oxidize too much and had a really lovely finish.
Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette
Holy cow. To be honest, when I opened the palette I thought it was absolutely gorgeous but thought I would need to use heaps in order to get the color to show. I was so wrong. I absolutely love this palette and paired with the foundation I was glowing and looked airbrushed. The palette comes with two highlight shades, a vibrant pearl white and a golden light brown as well as two blush shades, a perfect pink and a bronze. Each shade is packed with shimmer goodness and literally shines in the sunlight.
I used a light spotlight duster brush to apply the bronzed blush shade as contour on my cheeks and outer nose following that with the golden brown shade along my cheek bones. For a pop of highlight I took the white shade and applied that to each spot sunlight naturally hits the face as well as my brow bone and tear duct. I used the pink blush as eyeshadow and it applied beautifully. I barely had to dip into the colors to get good pigmentation. It also was easy to build up and went on flawlessly over the Backstage foundation.
I love a good black liquid mascara and I especially love a thick, fluffy mascara brush. I was thrilled to see that this mascara had that exact type of brush. I naturally have long lashes (thank you mama!) so using mascaras like Better Than Sex or L’Oréal’s lash paradise I need about 1, maybe 2 coats max. I was really surprised when this mascara lengthened but didn’t add much volume and took 3 coats before I felt like my lashes looked fuller. I would suggest if you are searching for an everyday, running errands minimal mascara, this is the one for you!
The product itself was definitely high quality based on the type of brush, lack of clumping and ability to stay without falling into the creases of your concealer.
I would say the quality of the products absolutely matches the price point and the wear of each product is great in that they apply flawlessly, stay out all day and have little fall out. I would say if you are looking for products that are great quality and give a flawless everyday, minimal, natural look than these are definitely products to look into. One big downside and reason why I have not and won’t purchase products from Dior is because they are no cruelty free. I hope this changes soon, but for now a girl can dream!
