SKIN ADVICE: flying soon? Here’s what I use to protect my skin!

Over the last 6 months it feels like I have spent more time up in an airplane than in my own home. At one point, I flew back from Europe, the next day flew to San Diego and 3 days later flew back into Seattle for my sisters Bachelorette party. Although I LOVE to fly, my body, mind and SKIN we’re exhausted. I’ve listed below a few of my top travel skincare essentials to keep my skin happy and healthy!
First, we should understand what exactly happens to our skin when we fly....

DRYNESS:
Our skin has a humidity range that it stays happy in! Anything above 70% or below 40% disturbs it. Airplanes typically hit around a 20% mark meaning the air is dry (and not to mention recirculated during flight duration) so any moisture that’s in our skin is sucked dry too! This is another great reason why it’s so important to hydrate your body days prior to flying since our moisture in our skin cannot be retained if we aren’t hydrated.
Think about this, when our lips are lacking moisture a natural response we have is to lick them, this in turn results in drier lips and is only a “quick fix”. This is the same concept with facial sprays. If your skin is lacking moisture it won’t be able to absorb and lock in the spray. Thus, drying out your skin even more.

DULLNESS:
Cabin altitude is so high once the aircraft has hit its peak that blood flow is reduce causing a very dull appearance to the skin.

FACIAL PUFFINESS:
Our bodies retain water as we fly and especially if you have eaten salty foods even 24 hours prior to your flight... hello puffy face! (So guilty of this!)

1. Frank Body Creamy Face Cleanser
This cleanser is one of my absolute favorites because it does an amazing job at tackling dirt, grime and stubborn makeup. This cleanser also contains grape seed oil, coconut oil, and sunflower oil which are natural ingredients that help with hydration as well as anti-aging benefits.

2. ArtNaturals Hyluronic Acid serum
Our skin needs water to retain any moisture. That is why Hyluronic acids are so beneficial to our skin. They are moisture barriers keeping the hydration level up as well as collagen production; without hydration that heap of moisturizer you’re applying will be far from helpful! This serum contains a blend of natural ingredients such as water, glycerin (attracts moisture to skin), vitamin E (healthy growth of new cells), and witch hazel (fights against acne).

3. ArtNaturals Vitamin C serum
Our skin is introduced to a lot of different germs when flying and bet you did think about how we are still being exposed to the sun while we are in the air! Along with aiding dull, dry skin, vitamin c also does wonders for sun damage, fine lines and providing a surge of antioxidants to help fight off those pesky airplane germs.

4. Coola sunscreen
You might be thinking, why on earth would I need sunscreen on a flight? Well, when we are flying we are up closer to the sun and if that window seat shade is up... you are being exposed to the sun!

5. Bite lip moisturizer
Have you ever noticed how when you fly it isn’t just your face that is sucked dry of any moisture? Yep, our lips suffer as well and if you are out in a position with no lip balm you may be using your own saliva which can further dry them out! This lip moisturizer contains agave & is my go-to balm for overnight or flying dry-lip relief.
