Oh hello there...
Friday, back again so soon? Seriously, it feels like these days are rolling into one at this point. In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to take the time to devote this week's Friday Five to the eco-friendly brands I love - because at the end of the day, we should love our earth as much as our skincare + support brands that love our earth, too!
Cheers to the weekend babes!

eco-friendly beauty tips
When it comes to sustainable skincare, there is more to it than solely being 'eco-friendly.' Let's be honest, what does that even mean? Being sustainable in skincare mean you you use ingredients that are naturally derived + clean that don't harm our earth in the process; using recyclable or biodegradable material for packaging; working towards conservation through donating towards planting trees and just downright taking ACTION towards sustainability.
To me, I would rather support a brand that is working towards being sustainable rather than saying they would like to be more sustainable + taking little to no action. Below I have highlighted a few favorites in my skincare collection! I have also highlighted ONE sustainability tip from above for a corresponding brand that does or is working towards!
Here are a few simple things I do to work towards being more environmentally conscious when it comes to beauty!
+ STOP USING MAKEUP WIPES! Swap for a microfiber cloth like this makeup eraser (seriously is incredible)
+ cotton or another biodegradable material for sheet masks + under eye/neck gels
+ zero microbead use
+ carbon neutral shipping
+ clean ingredients that don't harm the earth in the process
+giving back to the community + earth
SKYN ICELAND Under eye gels | working towards biodegradable materials
I have been using Skyn Iceland for a few years now and started with their Nordic Skin Peel Pads - which have now become a staple product in my weekly skincare routine. When keeping sustainability in mind, I spoke with Skin Iceland the other day and they informed me they are working towards making their products 100% biodegradable so those under eye masks can be broken down instead of sitting at a landfill on our earth!
This is a brand that truly cares + works towards finding ways to be more sustainable in skincare. They already follow a lot of really great practices in being an eco-friendly option but I was extremely thrilled to know that something down the road may be coming from them in regards to being more sustainable! They have undoubtedly the BEST under eye masks out there. They are not only one of the only brands that has done studies + research for stressed out skin but also use technology based ingredients that really work. My under eyes are always left hydrated, brighter + more awake with visibly less puffiness.
Herbivore Emerald Oil | Ethically sourced aCTIVE INGREDIENTS
Herbivore is a rockstar brand in my eyes. They not only use biodegradable packaging but all of their ingredients are ethically sourced + naturally derived. We love an eco-conscious brand! Here is a direct quote from their contact page, "Knowing that everything we put on our skin quickly absorbs into our bodies, we ethically source the finest raw natural materials the earth has to offer. With ingredients ranging from French pink clay to Brazilian gemstones, we formulate treatments that combine essential vitamins, minerals, and botanicals to restore skin to its optimum health and vitality." A+ Herbivore, we love you.
One of my cult favorites is the cbd oil, featured in my latest moisture barrier post here as well. CBD has anti inflammatory + antibacterial properties making it a great choice for irritated, dry skin that needs a surge of hydration. My dry sensitive skin is always soothed and visibly more plum + less irritated even 30 minutes after using.
BIOSSANCE | CARBON NEUTRAL SHIPPING
I freaking LOVE Biossance for just kick ass skincare. They not only use innovative technology with their ingredients but they also have carbon neutral shipping, meaning the company specifically asks the carrier to use methods that offset the climate impact. They do this by funding tree + plant deforestation projects as well. Trees are detoxifiers + absorb/remove CO2 from our environment.
I use a handful of products but I especially love the squalane vitamin c serum with rosehip. This product will not only hydrate + aide in repairing your moisture barrier but also has that great anti aging benefits from the vitamin c. My skin always looks and feels more supple, hydrated and down right glowy.
You know I had to include my Frank in this post. Frank uses naturally-derived ingredients that are ethically sourced and non-toxic. They also use recyclable packaging + their products come in a drawstring knapsack (instead of any plastic packaging) that is so stinkin' cute. A+ Frank, A+.
I literally use every product from Frank but I love the creamy cleanser that is my go-to staple cleanser. I love that this so affordable as well because you should NOT be spending more than $30 on a cleanser, IMO. The ingredients are all non-toxic so you won't experience any irritation!
MAKEUP ERASER + INNISFREE | MICROFIBER + BIODEGRADABLE SHEET MASKS
OK, you've heard my thoughts on this but I won't stop because if you use those Neutrogena makeup wipes, for the love of our planet - STOP!!! I have been making a really conscious effort in being more sustainable with beauty products but with that said, I know I have a ways to go but the first step is educating yourself. Makeup remover wipes are not biodegradable unless - like face masks -they are made for example, with a material that's biodegradable like cotton. Even then, you are also pulling + tugging at your skin with material that itself, is harsh. We really shouldn't be putting pressure on our skin (use the pads of your fingers or palms always) + especially not in the form of pressing + wiping with aggressive materials/ingredients. If you are a makeup wipe addict you may as well look in the mirror + say hello to your premature wrinkles that you're causing.
The Makeup Remover is microfiber which is far more gentle on skin, absorbs great (rather than moving makeup around like a wipe does), tackles makeup extremely well + TOWEL IS EQUIVALENT TO USING 3600 MAKEUP WIPES. You guys, I mean it's an incredibly easy switch to make. Cleansing oils can also be so much more powerful in breaking down + tackling that grime from the day. Take the extra minute to just WASH your face, you will be so happy down the road you decided to.
