FRIDAY FIVE | PRODUCTS I USE TO DEEP CLEAN MY BRUSHES + SWITCH SHADES

Picture

Friday is here...

+ boy do I feel like i'm running at a million miles per hour! There is nothing better than having a sunny Friday to accomplish all of those self-care things you may not have gotten to this week. For me, one of the tasks I desperately needed to accomplish today was giving my makeup brushes the deep clean they deserve.

This week's Friday Five I have focused on proper brush care + products to keep your brushes squeaky clean, conditioned + ready to create.

CARING FOR YOUR BRUSHES

When it comes to makeup brushes, we NEED to be cleaning them at least every one-two weeks. If you are a makeup artist or makeup creative, of course this will be a bit more regularly but for those of us who have a simple daily routine that time frame should be ok! Our makeup brushes need to be cleaned because it not only protects the brushes + helps their longevity but it also prevents bacteria growth + transferring bacteria to your skin. If you heavily use makeup + have a great skincare routine but notice its a bit out of balance, double check it hasn't been too long since your last brush cleaning. :)

I personally LOVE Sigma for brush cleaning products + brushes. They are a bit pricier but the quality is fantastic, your brushes will last + the products get them REALLY clean. The Sigma mat I have linked is an absolute game changer. With suction pads, you can easily use it anywhere + avoid it slipping around your sink when cleaning the brush. It also has different textures for different brushes, labeled so even if you're new to using it's pretty easy to figure out with the labels!

HOW TO CLEAN FOR YOUR BRUSHES

I typically will gather all of my brushes + first wash them with the Sigma liquid cleanser to give them a gooooood cleanse. Remember to always lay your brushes flat + avoid aggressively pushing the bristles straight down or into the mat. Place brush in the designated area it needs to be cleaned on the mat, wiggle at the base while you slowly pull the brush backwards until you've done this enough times that there's little to no makeup coming onto the mat.

I then follow with my Versed cleansing balm as a brush conditioner to keep bristles from fraying, I then follow with a tiny bit more cleanser so the balm isn't too heavily left over.

SHADE SWITCHING PALETTE

Sadly, this is sold out but this price is too good to beat! Switching palettes can be so beneficial when creating makeup looks because it completely eliminates the transfer of the other shade. This isn't going to be your true brush cleaner but it's a great little tool when you are mid makeup + need a quick clean!
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to chat product! I love connecting with you. <3

xx,
Jo
